Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to our wonderful father Reg who died peacefully on May 4, 2019, surrounded by family, at the Ottawa General Hospital of causes related to Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Reg will be sadly missed by his Newmarket family, Shelley, Jamie, Celeste and Harrison; his Edmonton family, Sherrey, Rob, Joshua, Emily, Ben and Cassie; and by his brothers, Ron and Gary (Carol); as well as his many nieces and nephews. Reg was predeceased by his wife, Patricia (nee Butts) who died of multiple myeloma; also predeceased by his brother Wayne (Patricia).

Reg grew up in the Ottawa Valley. As a young man he enlisted in the military where he worked his way through the ranks to Engineering Officer and Fire Chief. Reg was a caring and considerate manager earning the respect and friendship of his senior officers and his crews. After a distinguished career in the military, where he was awarded the Queen’ Golden Jubilee Medal of Honor, Reg joined the Commissionaires where upon retirement he received the Canadian Exemplary Services medal.

Reg’s love for his family was abundant. He always had time for a water fight, water skiing, coaching, and fun with his family. Dad was a proud grandfather and number one fan spending time in cold rinks, cramped dance recitals, concerts, sporting events and playing board games. Dad was the go to confident for the kids, a mentor and source of endless love.
He was a loving husband, caring for mom through her battle with cancer. He never missed a birthday, loved to celebrate the holidays and was always there for us when we needed a boost.
He was a strong presence and an amazing caregiver to all who had the honour to know him. Mom and Dad will always be in our hearts, and the memories of our family will be treasured forever We are immensely proud of the man that he was and grateful for the life that we shared.

Reg’s family will receive friends at McPhail & Perkins Funeral Home, 85 Munro Ave. E., Renfrew on Friday, May 10 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Hilltop Tabernacle, Griffith on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment to follow at Matawatchan Cemetery.
Donations to Renfrew Victoria Hospital would be appreciated by the family.

Reg was an excellent Fire Officer and Fire Chief. A close friend who I knew all through my career. His obituary captures him as he was “a caring and considerate manager earning the respect and friendship of his senior officers and his crews.” My condolences to his family and all his many friends.
Rest in Peace my Friend.

Garry Ferguson (Reg’s older brother), his wife Carol and their children Scott, Laurie Anne, Val and Mark express our condolences and deepest sympathy. Although we mourn the loss of our brother, brother in-law and uncle, we are blessed to have felt his love, experienced his laughter and celebrated with him. We remember his love of family, his pride in his grandchildren and laughter when telling some great story about his girls or his lifetime in the Canadian Forces. Our hearts are filled with wonderful memories of the joyful times we had with Reg and will always remember him with love.
